A lifelong career artist, Liz Reday holds a Master's Degree from the Royal College of Art in London. Her work has been featured in numerous shows over more than three decades and is represented in collections in several countries.
Liz Reday spent her childhood in rural Japan before moving to Southern California. After winning many awards for her artwork in High School, she had a solo show of her paintings at the Kerry Schuh Gallery in Newport Beach. Under the tutelage of David Hockney at UC Irvine, she was advised to go to art school in England.
Reday lived in Positano, Italy, and then moved to London to attend Central School of Art for several years before progressing to the Royal College of Art. During this time she exhibited in several galleries in Italy and England and travelled extensively in Europe. Following a solo show at the Langton Gallery, Chelsea, London, she returned to Southern California. She supported herself creating monotypes and etchings at the Workshop i.e. in Santa Monica.
She ultimately returned to painting, producing work that she exhibited at six solo shows across Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka. She began to be accepted into more prestigious juried shows nationally, including the Oil Painters of America National and Western Regional shows in 2004 and 2005. She has won many prizes in the San Gabriel Fine Art Association Spring and Fall Shows, notably First and Second prizes in Floral, Portrait and Seascape in 2004 and 2005. Reday has been accepted into the California Art Club's Women's City Club show seven times in the past four years as well as exhibiting with Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. With the Women Artists of the West, she has exhibited at the Reagan Library, Hart Part Hall and Museum, and the National Arts Foundation in Chicago in 2006, where her painting was featured on the invitation with Barack Obama.
Reday has exhibited at White's Gallery in Montrose and the ON Gallery and Arroyo Collection in South Pasadena. She has taken part in the San Luis Obispo Plein Air Festival in 2005 and plans to participate again. Reday was also included in the Members & Associates Show at the Water Mill Museum, New York, with Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, 2006. In South Pasadena, Reday has exhibited at the Bissell House with the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, and at an Open Studio event in December 2006.
She had a solo exhibition: "Visions of South Pasadena" at the SoPas Gallery in 2007. Reday exhibited several large paintings at the Hilligoss Gallery in Chicago in October 2007 with the Women Artists of the West.
Presently, Reday has been painting en plein air down at the L.A. River. Her interests lie in the juxtaposition of pastoral landscape tradition with the colorful abstraction created by multiple layers of grafitti on the undersides of freeways and bridges over the river. It continues her exploration of abstracted urban images that began in her "Beyond Natural Erosion"and "Battersea Power Station" series of etchings done in London in the 1970's, bringing her work into the present day.
